Digital slr's are the way to go but you will struggle with that budget. Have you thought of cross over ones? Between a digicam and digital slr. I use a nikon j 1 when needing a smaller but good camera. It works well =) and You still have different lenses depending on what your needs are.

for what i have been told about the dslr i might actually increase the budget to get one obviously point has been proven i dont know much about cameras lol

You can't go wrong with a good Dslr and at the end of the day you can use that and be very happy with it outside of paintball too :) . Just make sure you don't stand too close to the action and end up damaging the lens!! :p

One thing to be aware of with DSLRs is that in many cases images may not look as 'sharp' as those from compact cameras. This is because compacts apply loads of sharpening by default to jpeg images. The beauty of most DSLRs is that they let you shoot in RAW mode instead of/as well as jpeg. RAW images contain all the data captured by the sensor (rather than a compressed and pre-processed version of it which you get with jpegs) allowing far more flexibility when post-processing images.
