Oxygen does explode, not all compressed gases do. Otherwise most fire extinguishers(brain gone dead) will help fires along, and not put them out.

Ever used an oxy-acecelene torch? See what happenes if you use co2 rather than oxygen.

Oxygen is among the most reactive elements known.


Oh, and i meant explode as in fire type explosion

oxygen will explode when it comes in contact with flames because oxygen is a fuel for fire

i doubt it was pure oxygen as it was a diving tank and pure oxygen is not so good for you

and the explosion wasnt a proper explosion ie flames and stuff everywhere, it was an explosion of gas, ie gas under a high pressure quickly spreading out

It looks like the bottom of the tank was subject to some serious corrosion, my guess is the boot was holding moisture so it was not noticed and eventually wore its way through.
Maybe worth all you guys with tanks to check the boots and see if there are vents in the boot to dispearse moisture.

That must of been some scary ****e for the occupents of the car

I guess the car was empty when it happened or a new human susi bar would have opened.

There was an occourence many years ago in Northampton when a dive tank popped when being charged at a shop, took half the shop out.

We should be safe with carbon fibre bottles unless they fracture. I guess the moral is... if in doubt after a drop etc., get it retested... £26 for your life

I'm never really comfortable when I go and pick up my mate on Sundays at 5 in the mornin to head north for training with 2 loaded scuba tanks in the car!

Imagine if some drunken c**t crashes into you while coming home from a club off his tits...you can say bye bye to your ear drums.... maybe your eyes 'll pop out as well... brain will disintegrate.... with all the pressure suddenly released not even mentioning the 2 scud missiles that will probably take out half the city.

Driving to training is dangerous business.
