Hope you all enjoyed the tourney on Sunday.

Just a couple of comments:

Judges and goggles: My apologies for the apparent lack of safety here. It was pointed out to me early on during the day by Snatch that there were concerns, to which I checked with all the fields as to the situation. The rain and general damp conditions were the excuse but rest assured bollokings were issued. The situation did improve, but certainly needs more attention.

Chrono Procedure: A lot has been discussed over the lowering of limit etc. and we decided to strictly enforce the 300 limit and to chrono all players before going on the field and the use of on field chronying. With no one allowed on field with gun which put a single shot over 300 all the chrono judges reported players to be running their guns well within the limit, usually around the 270 - 280 mark. This was certainly the case with the on field chrony, with most players running their guns low. A nice situation to observe.

Gold Ring: A player lost a gold ring on the Hyperball field. It has been found so just give me your details and I can send it.

Goggles

It is nice to see that Snatch were so concerned about refs safety.

I understand that the major issue was the chrono judges - accepted.

I would say that no player should have his barrel un-bunged until instructed to do so (as was the case on the Hyperball field) so Snatch and all the teams should be ensuring everyones safety and keeping the guns safe.

The judges on all fields reffed untold rounds and had goggles on for hours at a time. To lift goggles between rounds brings blessed relief.

Players should make that possible by being more aware and conscious of those around them.

Just my opinion as a lowly ref.

Marshals with goggles off.

Having read some of the postings in this and other threads below , I thought I'd just add my 2 pence worth.

Firstly , I think most of you are talking about the guys on the Hyperball field ( Rushers ). These guys are very experienced players and marshals. I agree that it is dangerus to take your goggles off in an area where guns are allowed , ( you are taking risks you dont need to take ) , but give these guys a bit af credit. They aren't MORONS. They made sure guns were safe before they came on field ( after Chorno ) and they stayed behind the dividing netting to avoid shots from other fields , so even though they took risks , they made these risks minimal on the day.

Second , If any of you out there have marshalled a tourny like this one , you would realise how nasty it is wearing your goggles constantly for 8 hours. You do something like 30 games straight without a bye , its not nice. For those of you who have not marshalled , try going to work for a day , and wear your goggles the whole time. I bet they come off before an hour is up!!

The solution to the problem is very easy and simple. Just hang a legth of netting around half a dozen trees to form a small safe area next to the field were marshals and unarmed players can stand. However even this has a risk of a ball coming through it. Just like in any safe area around the country. Nowere is totally safe , especially when people dry fire thier guns in the ' safe ' area.

Just my feelings on the subject.

By the way , well done Dan and all the marshalls. But can you book some dry weather for next time , My 4x4 ditched after pulling so many people off the field. Oh well , it all washes off. Hope you enjoyed the ouzo we left. See You Soon.
