I think if the event had been on grass it would have been a nightmare after Fridays rain. There is no way the fields would have drained and it would have been a mub-bath similar to New Jersey or New Orleans. As it turns out it was a surface that got early criticism, but turned out to be a good playing platform. Incidentally I hear the surface was softer than Vegas last year...

The sliding was pretty fancy in my opinion, and added another dimension to the games.

I was diving around a lot on the fields off the break, and didnt notice the hard surface at all. I was sceptical at first, but after a few breakouts i forgot that the site was on a hard surface.

Great event

I think it's funny how everyone jumps to conclusions and starts freaking out ALL THE TIME. The turf was a risk that the NPPL saw fit to take. Its obvious that the surface was insured...otherwise the event wouldn't have taken place. Now, a few days later after someone posts that picture there is so much damage done and everyone is eating their words...there were no injuries from the turf and everyone is singing it's praises...i give it up to NPPL for once again taking risks!

It isn't true to say there were no injuries- but they were all minor. I was freaking out, I admit. It didn't turn out to be a big deal, and I am glad.

We were talking about the drainage thing at the event on Friday (I had to fly out Saturday morning). Everytime somebody bitched about the insane sliding, the being wet, or whatever, someone always brought up mud, and people quieted down.

So wierd to have so much rain! It is usually so sunny here this time of year, but it took a long time to get warm this summer, too.
