I used to have a barrel with a Z design on the end of it, and porting in the Z which was machined into it. It looked like a boomy but was in fact a J&J two piece barrel.

Maybe this is what you have Seph?

Right...back in the day..Dave Youngblood...designed a barrel for himself..it was v.good...people wanted them...he went into business and DYE was born.
Original boomstick...all stainless...not unscrewable...pricey.
New boomies two peice all steel.
Ultralight boomies are aluminium..lighter, cheaper but less robust.
Titanium boomies...v light, v robust..v expensive!!
You can now by sepaerate backs in .686, .688 and .692..and fronts in different lengths.
You forget what you posted? I typed 1st as in saying "first off" not a quote of your number 1 but the correct sequence of Boomsticks is below...sorry if we had out wires crossed ;)

1st Boomsticks all stainless...yes that is right
2nd gen Stainless back ally front...glued
2nd gen Titanium back ally front....glued
3rd gen Stainless back allt front screwed
3rd gen Titanium back ally front screwed ( these "may" exist but certainly glued version available)
1st ultralights ally back and front glued (may have actually been a one piece)
2nd gen Ultra light ally back and front screwed

Boomsticks un marked (no numbers on the back) are .688 bore size. Stainless Boomsticks are approx .686 and are not marked, special one offs were made but the bore id would have as per order and possible that some kind of marking would have been done but now they are basically unavavilable though some residual stocks are about. Regular Boomsticks ie the stainless back type can be had in bore id from .684 up to.694 in .002 increments all marked on the barrel except the standard bore id of .688
