May be wrong place but it is more a query, is going back a bit but may get the wheels turning for a few of the old skool

Can remember years ago reading a report / analysis by airgun designs on the required pressure to accelerate a paintball to 300fps i think it was something real low like 8 - 10 psi?

Could be wrong but does anybody know what i am on about or have a link i can't find it anywhere

Its 70 ish PSI and yeaah its Tom Kaye.

I am slightly interested in this, as would it not also vary massively on the size of the 'chamber' containing the compressed air, the dwell time of the gun, and the length of the barrel before the porting starts and the bore size compared to the paint?

if you find the article I would not mind reading it

thanks

If i ever do i will let you know the one i was on about, had me thinking after a brief visit to the nation

*is sullied*

That the majority of the new guns being released are all spool type, and me and a couple of ma team are arguing over different methods of operation and stuff

what are you actually arguing about, i dare say there maybe some other sites that people know off the top of their head, if its just regarding something simple.

Discussing advancement and new ways of operation I think it is possible to do something, not really able to say they disagree due to most hpr reading between 180 and 350 psi, i know i read something a while ago that proved the pressure needed to be a lot less but just can't find it is all

i know timmys run well below that, mine was around 70psi i think, it never went above 100 anyway.

there is a whole section on different firing mechanisms and diagrams on zdspb.com, might give you an insight and some more weight to an argument

Tom Kaye, states that in an Automag, the actual pressure required to accelerate a ball up to 300 fps over 8-10 inches of travel, is 60-80 psi.

Guns that work at 100-150 psi, obviously require a higher input pressure from the HPR (inline), so that drop off, isn't a problem, due to recharge rates of the HPR.
