an exacto knife is just what americans call a craft knife...bad plan.
needle nose plyers should work, but if not then blast em with a heat gun to loosen them up first and they should come off....ive never known them be that hard to shift tho...once you got hold of them they usually pop off.

Took mine off with a craft knife, just stabbed the centre and leveraged from the hole it left, came out no probs with no damage 
Yeh these are metal jobbies tho, will try the needle noseers again at work tomorrow, otherwise ill have to get the heat gun on the go.
dude got any carpet in your house as in faily thick carpet??
if so stick the ego on the floor and budge it back and forth carpet should grip it and pop it off
