I don't think theres a problem with a post letting ppl know that theres a group of ballers getting together, i admit we don't need 5 pages of "it was good to see you in the pub" posts, but the odd "we're gonna be here, when and all are welcome" posts in the appropriate place(in the forum) will do any harm.

Hehe :)

That's exactly why I said that those "announcement" posts are fine, it's all about the numbers of 'em. I think it's great some friendships have formed from these boards, i can think of several people I wouldn't really know except through this place.

I don't want it to be stamped out and I like having a laugh on these boards. But I do get annoyed with 86 threads which are just a variation on a theme or the post count bandits.

Oh - and Rancid, what about a mods forum? - most other large-ish forums have one, that only the select few can read and sort these things out.

A kind of spin on a mods board, which is another good idea, is a gold board - moderators can take classic threads and place them on the gold board so they don't disappear into the mists of time like other threads.

It has to be pretty select, obviously, but that way you can keep classic threads preserved for future generations.

Like the gold board idea. I would say it should only be moved once the thread is "dead" for a month or so and closed so people cant post in it again.

Desert Island Threads kind of things :)

But you'd still get people digging it up like months later and posting a new thread somewhere else saying "you know that post in the 'Gold Thread'? You know, the one that says.... etc... " and BANG! we're back to square one.... :D:D:D

That's hardly a problem. If a thread is "good" enough to make it into the Threads of Fame then I can't see why a new thread that uses it for "inspiration" is a bad thing, if anything - that should be promoted as it shows people are reading around without posting questions that's been answered 73 times before.

I only suggest locking it (well after it's dead) so you don't get people posting in it for the sake of it and diluting the arguements/points of view.

Bloody hell that took me a while to read all that has been posted.

OK my opinions.

THE GOOD

Generally a great bunch of people who can be very helpful.
Some seriously funny posts which can and do make me laugh.
Some very infomative posts

THE BAD

Thread hijacking.
THe trend of bullying a select few members no matter what they post.
Cliquey groups

Personally I dont care about the long "slumber party" post coz nobody makes me read them but I can see where others have a problem with them.

Thread jacking is a serious pain in the arse. You post up a question and a after one or two answers the post ends up going on a bout who did what last week.

If someones posting annoys you then use the ignore button. I have a few on my list and it makes reading threads so much nicer :D I dont think there is any need to hound, bully or intimidate ANYONE off these boards.
