Astroturf - particularly the XL Turf.
I will never play on sand again unless my life depended on it...or I was using someone elses kit. It's pure ****e, if it's deep it will slide from under your feet when running, you can't do a 'descent' dive on it as you will stop dead and probably hurt yourself, and then to top it off all the particles invade every orifice of your equipment. Sand = Poo

ive never played on the stuff myself, but to cushon it, i would imagie old carpet (obviously you'd need a lot), carpet underlay, cardboard wouldnt be too bad, it you could bet it level, just some ideas anyways...Ion said:

XL turf as amazing as it is, is extremely expensive. For 1 millennium size field your talk tens of thousands, last time I checked it was about £40,000, but bloke I spoke to said costs might becoming down as a closer factory was being made.
Ordinary - pretty much the closest stuff to XL we could find. Works just as well. With reballs mind.
Yeah, on the astroturf line, how many mils is acceptable for a decent cover, as they range from 8mm all the way up to 20mm+... Whats a decent compromise between cost and comfort?
