some of you guys may remember back a few months when somebody sed "wouldnt it be nice if a young cool super sexy paintballer like cowboy from SAD uK could win something like that and thrust balling into the public eye in a good light"

well, i took up the task and sent off an application, which included stuff about sporting heros......lang, lasoya names that nobody out side the sport would know.....but thats the name of the game.

..........anyway..........i got through to the regional finals. to be held on the 19th.

got my letter telling me about it on the 20th...................nice.

but what really pissed me off whas when i read it it said. "make sure you biring all the food and drink and sports equipment you need to compete. Trainers and kit etc."

hmmmm......interesting i though....so on i read....

.....as it turned out the competition was running between cones and press ups etc.........a fitness test.

my point is this......i am not unfit but.....the big hook of the scheme was that any sports person who was serious about their sport could win.......i know a lot of ballers are "under tall for their weight" but think about any other sport like bmx, skateboard, mountain biking.............IF YOUR NOT AN ATHLETE HOW THE FUC!K ARE YOU GONNA COMPETE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

here ends my stress....comments people

peace

It's a conspiracy I tell you, they didn't want a paintballer having a chance at getting through and being on telly so they fiddled it and "accidentally" forgot to post it in time!!!

we should complain..

Though this is ridiculous, to tout something as open to all sportspeople and then to set up nothing more than a crappy old fitness test is insulting to a whole host of sports, (and not just lardy back players like me!).

Not all sports are about running and doing pressups.

It's a con to bring back Peter Purves or summat in a youth "Superstars", (damn showing my age now), certainly a bloody con anyway.

Unlucky dude :(

WTF???

loads o sports don't really require you to be an athlete. try car racing, that's a sport, as is archer etc.

you don't NEED to b an athlete for any of these sports, or paintball.

que one very inluting letter to the BBC

uh, no you do have to be an athelete for any of those sports. That would be the definition of a sport, surely?
"sport n.
Physical activity that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often engaged in competitively.
An activity involving physical exertion and skill that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often undertaken competitively.
An active pastime; recreation. "

"ath·lete n.
A person possessing the natural or acquired traits, such as strength, agility, and endurance, that are necessary for physical exercise or sports, especially those performed in competitive contexts."
Racing car drivers have to be fit in order to keep thier concentration inthe cramped and hot conditions they compete in.
Archers have to have great upper body strength and fitness.

How many paintballers have a fitness regime? How many train with stamina and endurance in mind? How many are drinkers and smokers?

don't drink and don't smoke. :) (only 16)

for archery etc, things like running and stamina aren't really used for quite a few sports. i am merely hinting that some sports do no require a lot of fitness. e.g darts

Darts?
Darts???
your example is darts?? fine, darts and tiddlywinks require no fitness training...whatever... doesn't make them sports in my mind.
Ever found your concentration wavering, your aim being off and your willingness to really push yourself diminished because you are tired at the end of a long days paintball?

like it or not, darts is a sport.

i'm just saying that fitness trials are not true tests of your abilities at a sport.

yeah, at the end o the day i'm usually tired. that's why i take my litre bottles of red bull substitute (it's actually just red bull with a different lable)

Cockersrule.
Does that mean that backmen are just a bunch of fat beer guzzling, smoking blokes that happen to be able to throw paint accurately:D
You can't have it 2 ways.
If we respect other sports then we earn their respect.

Peace.
