I probably asking a question which has been asked so many times its getting boring but once again its being asked.

What barrel ?

I have an impulse and ive had it long enough now to want a new barrel. But what do i get. Mostly I've been looking at the freak system by smart parts. But as i havent had any experience with other barrels i dont know if the insert system is the way to go or if i should stick to a one piece please any help would be well recived

I borrowed an empire set of a bearded friend, and it's superb. You can change the calibre of the barrel as well as the length. I recommend it :)

He used it once ;) Not that he isn't entitled to his opinion.

Can't really go wrong with a boomstick

I would recommend a Dye boomstick, over a freak but if you don't just use one type of paint go for a barrel with different size bores, eg. Freak

Same with the Freak actually. You don't have to buy the full set if you don't want to, just the inserts you think you'll use.

I'll have to be the fly in the ointment..

I think the Freak system is hugely over-rated. There inconsistent, fragile, and hard to clean. The cases break too easily (the clear plastic on the front), they move out of alighment too easily, the bore sizes on the side don't match the inserts in somecases, just not a good barrel system in my opinion.

Hats off to smartparts for investing a great idea, shame they didn't implement it well..

Your much better off with a Boomstick, or other barrel system without inserts (although the Powerlyte system actually locks the inserts in place so it's much better).
