No a 21" is not a total waste. It will be no more accurate than, say, a 14". What it will give you is a barrel easier to aim, although you will be trading that off for a less efficient marker. With your barrel you have 7" of it causing more friction on the paintball than is needed.
To test the theory of longer barrels being less efficient chrono your marker with a 14" (or similar shorter length) barrel. Then without altering anything fit on the 21"- your fps will go down. You therefore need to crank up the velocity (amount of air/co) to achieve the same fps as the 14".
The link I posted in an earlier post on this thread will tell you all you need to know.

if you have evr played(shuttup) airsoft then yu will know what im talking about...there is a thing called hop up where there is a tiny bump at the top of the barrel which puts back spin on the ball which causes the ball to literally 'hop,up' out of the barrel... if u watch it....u will see it does this...same principal for the flatline barrel.

did u see john sosta with his X mag bunkering some guy with a 4 foot barrel???? sooo good but pointless

For its price the Dye X-cel 14" Barrel is easily the best barrel upgrade you can buy for the inferno.
It's such a good barrel it's fitted to the new E-Blade cocker as standard.

After the initial acceleration in the barrel (7-8" unported) the rest of the barrel will not affect accuracy. Because paintballs do not fully hug the interior of the barrel (there should be a small amount of windage) longer barrels have no effect. What a long barrel will do is let you push bunkers or small branches to the side easier. Bear in mind that the longer the barrel the more gas you need to get the ball to the required velocity.
