I play front and use a 10" and my brother plays back and uses a 12" he does great in the back and has never had a problem getting the ball to the target. My thoughts are that for front the lower profile the better and for back you never know when you will be needed up front, so stay as small as possible.

16's are great at back, consistent spread of balls, good range and sweet for maneouvering your bunker with. You can get away with a 14 too but they aren't quite as consistent with the spread but 14s are cool if you plan on moving through the field with your boys, easier to get that little bit tighter into your bunker.

There's an interesting debate about this in the speak your brains section with the thread title 'barrels', you should read it bro.

14" is what i have known to be best. but you could use a 12 or 16 out side of that range you getting a bit small (8.5"-10") or a bit long(18"-21") i've seen the game played with all these set ups and i'd have to say for mid-back 14" front 12" but its dosen't matter either way...

I've always been a fan of 16" barrels. You can stick the barrel in the grooves of the bunker and rest your barrel there. You expose less when shooting. If you try that with a 12" or 10" the balls shoot off of the bunker which sucks.
