Agreed.....With the current economic downturn your local field needs your support more than ever...use it or loose it
Exactly, 'the current economic downturn' it works both ways. It might be cheaper for him to practice in his garden and he might not able to afford to go to his local site. Just about everybody is feeling the pinch.

As for air, get yourself a dive tank or two and make sure it's a 300 bar and 12 litre or 15 litre and a fill rig. Some dive shops will do a air card for the year which costs about £35 per bottle and you get unlimited fills

Just a thought dude, if its a tad expensive for you to play at a local site regularly to begin with have you considered asking your friends if they themselves or their family members own land? I'm just thinking for the safety issues bro because to be truthful with you it really doesnt matter how high the netting is, paintballs will get over. They are like hamsters, they just seem to find a way out when you think youve covered everything. When we started many moons ago we trained on one of our team members family farm. Propping up a few oil drums, palettes and shed doors in the middle of a cow field between seasons worked out ideal.

Good luck with the setup though and don't jump in dude. :D

what are your thoughts on this and how insane does it make me sound?

At the risk of sounding at tad rude.I think you would be better off working hard at school and playing ball at a local site ,than constructing this blatant health and safety nightmare in your parents back garden.:D

not sure this is the best place to but this so move if not.

i want to be able to play i my garden and its a resanable size so i had the idea of buying some nets, which theres ones i can use on ebay. This way i can shoot without woring about going into naeighbours gardens or the horse field be hind me. all i need is some poles i can use to keep the nets up which is difficult to find(any ideas where?). then i just need to make a few bunkers out of spear wood. this whole thing i could take down when not in use, just take out the pole, role up the net and move the bunkers. it wont be big but will be big enogh for me and my friend to practice going down on each other.

what are your thoughts on this and how insane does it make me sound?

also any one know where i can buy an air compressor to fill the bottel? this way i wont have the hastle of finding somewhere miles away like a diving shop or something.

why not just get a snap cage?

York, or there abouts
your all probs right about it being over the top and a bit too dangorous i just get these random crazy ideas sometimes.

i still don't see the problem with a bit of target practice and fireing a few shots in the garden once in a while providing it stays in the garden and the neigbours know etc so i might just make a small target area at the bottom so the balls go in one place and its easier to contain.

i just ordered my first gun that day so i got excited and wanted to find times i could use it, as its difficult for me as im unable to play on sundays when most walkon days and tornaments are.I dont know anyone with a big feild they'll let me use either, so thats why i was thinking about seeing if i could do some shooting in the garden as a bit extra. i'm even more excited about it now as its arived and the best bit being because they are out of stock of the standard slg they sent me the ultalite at no extra charge and it will be atleast a month till i can use it :( i just want somewhere to play

and whats a snap cage?

Nothing wrong with you asking mate. Its good that your excited about playing,we need more new players in the U.K. Just remember these boards are viewed by many many people, not just the original thread creator,so with that in mind, members here are often very carefull about how they give out advice.(anyone remember the Stevenrules"american voltage conversion" thread?!!!!that was scary!!!) "Backyard" paintball in the U.K is really not practical.Iam sure you have good intentions but it only takes some fool to read a post here and then order a couple of gats from the internet, knock a few pallets together, get the beers in, a few mates round, etc. You can see where Iam going with this.
Trust me,contact your local site and see if they do any training or have a team you can join.Even if you did manage to get "setup" in the back garden you would soon out grow that and be searching for more room/more people to shoot at etc.

i just want too say something about public safety and the law

if you hit someone with a paintball you will be seriously bummed by the law...

im in scotland so from what i know ill tell you some things about how its treated. Now im not sure if this is all true just for scotland, and with many devolved matters and the scottish parliament some things may be different for me than you english boys ;). so if im wrong please correct me to help him out lol

one thing i know is that paintball was banned in scotland some time ago not exact dates can be brought up. Although it wasnt in england (i think) whcih would explain why the scottish scene is so low compared to the english scene.

I do know that a paintball gun is classed as a FIREARMS!!! thats right, just like a air rifle etc. And i do know for sure that in scotland that if you are caught hitting any bystander or civilian with it it is severely classed as a firearms punishment, which could put you in prison at the worst, paying out fines and suspended from any shooting grounds and holding firearms, which undoubtatly will result in you being baned from holding a paintball marker and any field.

paintball to the public community is a dangerous and to some not a sociable sport so its obviouse why they are strict.

now as i said this is for scotland indefinite as i know an im not sure if its the same for england, so please double think aboit what your doing in your garden and think of the safety first ;)

Don't use 'Spear wood', this will almost certainly be sharpened and extremely dangerous. Use regular unsharpened 'sticks' and thats one H&S problem you won't have to worry about, leaving only 237 others to make you sweat.

Glad I could help.
