Yess, BB guns use air as a propellant, but it is soft air and generally requires the gun to be cocked right after, and the range of BB guns is much lower than that of air or paint guns. Now the BB guns that are powered by the 12 gram co2 cartridges are a little more powerful,but you will find that these are classed as air guns because they may fire pellets or small ball bearings. Now I know that these are definatly not toys because I know someone who had the side of his car window smashed with one of these which bb's can't do, so imagine what it would be like to get shot with one. Also I'm not sure how this stands on the BB guns that are battery powered because they do not use air and these fire automatically
