...don't seem to be popular any more, yet 'cockers are, how come?

I've been out of the scene for a long time, but when I left there was naff all difference between a decent cocker and a decent mag - the choice usually being based on which gun 'felt' better to an individual.

Now it seems as though hardly anyone in the UK runs a mag, although loads of people run cockers, some people even swapping electro guns to use cockers instead?

I'm confused, so if anyone could briefly fill me in on 'UK Paintball history and marker trends 1995-2002' I'd be grateful. :)

Mags were all the rage due to their speed but did have a problem with chopping RT as a prime example, able to shhot too fast.
Cockers are so poular partly because of the 'accuracy claims' and cos they are so upgradeable and are fun to tinker with.
Mags will be making a big comeback in the electro market with the Extremes (check my Sig if you haven't seen them yet!)

Mags.....ugly? Bad bad man ;)

I stopped playing just before the RT was released - so I missed out on the chopping problem.

Dug my mag out of the loft a couple of weeks ago, stuck some oil in it, gassed it up and it worked perfectly straight away - not bad considering the seals are 7 years old :)

I'd have thought more people would recommend mags to new players rather than cheapo electro guns. It's a real shame that so much emphasis is placed on looks now rather than reliability and build quality.

Going to play with mine at the weekend & will probably sling a level 10 kit into it.......or if the bug gets me again I might have to think about an e-mag. :)

Once you slap a level 10 mod in there you'll be laughing!

I used to play tourney at a fair standard with my old (level 7) mag. It sat in the cupboard for over 5 years until we dusted it off a few months ago & it's having a new lease of life with another girl in the team. OK, after a couple of tourneys we did convert it on to air but only because that's what the rest of the team are using.
I don't use it mainly 'cause I just can't shoot it as fast as a back player needs to these days in the arenas, but I'd happily use it even for tourneys on old-fashioned woodland fields.
Very low maintenance, virtually nothing that can go wrong except the odd O ring, light, durable, great starter gun.:)

I'd kind of assumed everyone ran air these days - I've got one of the old Air America 3000psi systems on mine, which still seems to run fine.....though I do tend to duck when I go to refill the bottle....which is test dated 1994 ;)

Anyone had any experience with the ReTro Valve?

woodland - 'old fashioned' /me goes and cries in the corner hugging some rhoddie leaves :)
