Ok, I'm gettin a marker, havent decided which one spyder compact 2k or automag(becuz of money issues, trying to see what will work out) but when it happens, what are the ups/downs of the automag, and the compact 2k!!! I know the 2k's are very upgradable, that's why i'm lookin into em, and the automags are a really good gun, so any input........

The Automag is a LOT more. If you plan on playing serious paintball on a team and are not on a tight budget then go with the Automag. However, going from renting to an Automag is kind of a huge jump if you know what I mean...

If it's a toss up between the mag and the spyder, I'd go for the mag any time.
Straight from the box it's way better than the spyder, and nowadays they're pretty affordable. Since you're already talking about upgrading in the near future, why spend money on upgrades that'll get the spyder up to the level of the mag, if you're lucky. Spend the money on the mag. You won't be sorry. Sure, they're not Angels or whatever, but they aren't blown away by them either. Also, they're user friendly and very forgiving. They shoot pretty tight too. And I think that they're still one of the best looking markers out there, specially the minis.

Just my thoughts.

Thankx, all thoughts appreciated, see the only problem here is if i want the mag, i'm not sure bout the money, it's gonna be a gift from family, and the upgrades would be outta my pocket, see.... well, thanx and we'll see how it turns out

If your family is paying for it you should definitely go with the automag! Save yourself money in upgrades. ;) I had assumed you were like myself, on a limited budget and looking for a decent starter gun.

Then again, what do I know, I've never even shot an automag. Sometimes I like offering my opinion even if my experience is a bit..."limited".

Have a look on www.automags.org

In the classified section there are lots of very cheap automags for sale. Or you could even stick up a post asking for what you want and giving you max price limit.

I have seen a few mags with barrel, CO2 and hopper for less than $200

If I was you I would go for the mag straight away it will save you so much in the long run
