So the vert reg looks no different than the gas through? is that right? Impressively small it is then

The gas thru is actually the thing u see in all the marketing photos for the '03 - thinner, longer, and the gas goes in at the bottom.
Personally I prefer a fatter front grip, but the thin ones look bling!

The only thing I'd say about having bigger hands (no, not that, the OTHER thing ) is that you can't fit your fingers behind the grip - the gas elbow gets in the way a bit.
If you don't play with your fingers wrapped all the way around, then you'll be fine
