Nah seriously, thanks for everyones advice, Ill head away and tinker away, see if I can get it going again... They're old site guns (Knockhill Karting + Paintball?), so at least 10 yrs old, but it used to work!!

If the gun is as old as you say you might find it really is buggered... some of ours which are about 3 yrs old now (but have been used maybe 3 times a week on average) are now being laid to rest... We have noticed the older Infernos have a lot of re-cocking problems which can't be rectified even by changing EVERYTHING! However, if we put all the parts from a 'buggered' gun on another body it works fine.

Maybe you could get round this by using a thicker hammer o'ring to make it seal, (ie the same inner diameter but a very slightly larger outer diameter)?
