timing is a doddle to sort out mate.
theres 2 bits to a cockers firing cycle. the bit where the hammer drops and the gun actually shoots and the second bit where it recocks.
all timing does is gets the 2 bits in the right time.
the bit you have to adjust is the little collar that connects the rod that comes out the back of the 3 way (the small brass bit) and the trigger frame rod. get a diddy allen key and loosen off the grub screw nearest the trigger frame (not the front one!). the simply screw the collar onto or off of the rod (it will turn) while slowly pulling the trigger until you get to a situation where the gun shoots first and recocks afterwards.
job done.
from what you describe the trigger isnt going back far enough to completely switch the 3 way and so its leaking. more than likely timing issue. if not the whip the grip frame off and there should be a grub screw in there. loosen it a few turns and it'll allow the trigger to move back further thus properly switching the 3 way.
if you want any help with this gimme a pm and i'll talk you through it step by step or failnig that feel free to post it to me and i'll time it up for you FOC (won't nick it i promise!, already got a cocker!)
it honestly is really easy when you get the hang of it and not nearly as complicated as you may first think!
cheers

i'll have a look when i get home (tomorrow afternoon. don't think i have but i may be wrong (we are talking about the grub screws in the little collar right?). on that note it is fine if theres only one grub screw in the back of the collar rather than 2. if theres only one at the front of the collar and not one at the back then thats your timing problem right there! as you shoot the gun that collar will slowly rotate and put the timing out. hence the grub screw to hold it all nice and tight!
let me know if you want me to have a look at it as i'm more than happy to. had loads of people helping me out when i first got my cocker so its a kind of pay it forward type thing!
cheers
