or less if it's a pistol which is why pt extreme's won't go over 245 fps (as standard anyway)

and full auto or burst fire markersd, to the best of my knowledge, are totally illegal

thought we'd sorted out *ages* ago that if a PT Extreme is shooting at "245 fps" it potentially would require a Class 1 firearms certificate as someone quoted (edit) an average weighted paintball fired at (end edit) 300 fps being close to the 12ftlb impact limit for a "rifle".

Pistols are only allowed 6ftlb so anyone firing a paintball from a "pistol" at 300fps could well find themselves on the wrong side of the law.

Anyone know more about the legalities of this than I do care to put my mind at rest?

Jersey is wierd - a friend 'lost' an evo cocker when he tried to take it home (to Jersey). Customs took it away and it was never seen again :-( Wierd island-dwellers!

150fps potentially close to legal

that was more my point, even if a PT extreme is limited to 245fps it may well be in a very grey or slimy area of the law as the ftlb impact of the paintball could exceed the limitations for pistols.

the evo is prob still at costoms he should have said he was in the jersey club or called paul batho to get it cleared ,,,,,,probably could still do it .......see the best thing about it ,,,,,,for a paintball marker you need a class 1 cert ,,,,,,,,,for a 12 bore shotgun you need zero now thats stupid

Legal ?

In reply to Cubes question the legal velocity for a paintball marker is 360 fps 245 mph don`t ask me to do the maths on how much poundage is behind this can`t remember the equation, but this is the goverment accepted maximum velocity for paintball markers, though as i`m sure lots of people will argue our goggles are only rated up to 300 fps which is why we all use this as the "site" limit.
Has anyone read the law on smooth bore weapons ?,another can of worms, definately not needing to be opened !!,by a anyone.

In the jersey part as said person is me I guess I can explain a bit more.

what you suggested was actually done, with the cocker being locked up safely in airport customs awaiting the arrival of paul, Except when he went to the airport, this class one firearm had gone missing.

it was discovered but that guy who's name escapes me (was incharge of firearms) got arrested. Then I found out that my cocker had become evidence in his trial for firearms misconducts. So thats were its currently at. I'm sure I can get it back at somepoint, hopefully when its become a rare collectors antique.. (I wish :) )

Law, Legislation, and Statutes

There has been much speculation as to what is required over here as well. The Isle of Man is much the same as Jersey/Guernsey in some respects, but totally different in others. As far as I am aware, neither Jersey, nor Guernsey have their own Goverment, so must at least partially follow the UK Firearms legislation.

The problem we all have is the law's 'Interpretation' of that legislation. Looking at the Firearms act over here, we too had to hold a Class 1 Firearms Certificate. But, with the help of the UKPSF, we have since had agreement with the local police force that Paintball Markers are exempt from that legislation.

I would find out if you are having these troubles due to the interpretation of the act, and contact the UKPSF if you require any assistance.
