How do you remove annodising without damaging the AL?

I'm looking to try rubbing down or using a chemical to remove the anno on my reball barrel as a test. I'm looking for both ways to compleastly remove anno and one to fade annodising leaving a smooth finish.

Any ideas folks?

i'd personally just send it to sloth or something because doing it by hand is possible, but not advisable :p
You Could sand it or bead blast.
Sanding works, but will probably get sand grit inside the AL and then make it harder to anno again.
Also, removing the anno will allow all the weather, dirt and crap get to the AL, therefore making it harder to clean etc, and will eventually (after some time) pit and stuff.
You'd have to put more effort into cleaning it and what not when its just raw AL.

My 2p:p

I did some work on one of my shocker bodys a while ago, to fiinish it I used some 1000 grit wet&dry, and where the anno was still on the body it scuffed it quite a bit, try some lower grit wet&dry, use 1000 grit to finish it for super smoothness

I've used mr muscle (oven cleaner) before

But it stinks and dissolves your skin, so you need gloves and a well ventilated room.

caustic soda is the way to go, i used it to remove the black anno from a freak back i had many moons ago. just be careful cos its powerful stuff.
