Ok,
Im getting Brass Shavings in my gun. I think this is down to me replacing my bolt for a heavier one , causing the hammer to baloon on impact and touch the sides.
(I replaced the bolt about 4 months ago because the stock one was completely worn out).

I think i need to lower my lpr pressure rather than get a SS hammer which would be treating the symptoms rather than the problem.

My questions are:
Is taking out a LPR shim the best thing to do?
Is there anything i need to watch out for when fiddling about with that part of the gun?

Its a LCD 2001, I dont know what pressure my LPR is at at the moment.

Cheers.

John if you remove you LPR shims you will change the LP operating pressure. Changing the bolt will not fix the shavings problem. SS Hammer will not only remove that problem and will also remove the mushroom effect on the hammer because SS is the same hardness if not harder than the pin in your bolt.

As for the LPR pressure I would have to look at my manual but I think it should be at or right around 80 psi . Don't quote me on that because I have to look in the manual.

Now you will hear it will wear out your gun. There is only one way it will cause problems and that is if the rod from the RAM is bent. As long as it is straight the hammer will move free and cause no damage. I hope this helps. If you do decide to swap over send it to the Angel guy (Andy the Yank) at Phoenix he comes highly recommended! :D

Cheers for all the help so far :)

I'll have access to a chrono this weekend but im not playing so I just want to take a shim out, and if performance suffers, put it back in!

I really wanted to know what to look out for when getting into the lpr.
I dont want things to be flying out at me when I open that part of the gun.

Ive read the stuff in the manual but I wanted to know from someone who has had experience tinkering with the lpr.

If that doesnt work ill send it in to Roosters Buddy to get a SS one.

So if anyone can give me any more info, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Look at the front (barrel end of your gun), unscrew the left hand cap/volumiser. Inside is a brass colored crater thingy, screw the extraction tool into it then point gun at the ground and gently pull it out, the spring stack and shims should come out with the stem.

Put these to one side noting the arrangement of the spring stack.

Take out/ add shims as required then put back in stem and spring stack with extraction tool, undo extraction tool. screw back in end cap/ volumiser.
