The fridge magnet idea really works, tape it to a stick and have a poke around under everything, you would be suprised what appears.

I lost an important spacer, and found it the same way.

And pen springs are good for triggers, they're a bit softer.

Find a spring from a pen that fits in the hole, cut it to the right side, and there you are, a replacement spring. As far as I know, the spring is not necessary either. The pin should not come out unless you pull it out.
