I don't think the problem is that they can't keep players for 8 months; the problem is they can't get the same players to show up at every event during those 8 months when the players:

- Have real jobs
- Are not paid to play
- Have to self-finance some portion of their play/travel

Somebody can't get off work, somebody has run out of money, somebody's wife is having a kid, there needs to be a realization that for the majority of these teams playing is in reality an OPTIONAL recreational expense, not a career, and it needs to be treated as such.

Unless I'm mistaken, this isn't an issue of players bouncing from one team to another, it's an issue of whether the players are able to play at all.
precisely.

whats the roster lock count for Div 1?
3.09 After a team’s 3rd Millennium Series event the roster of Champions League, Div1 and
Div2 teams are locked. If such a team wants to register a player for their roster, who is
not present at one of the first three events, they need to provide his full name and
birthday before the rosters are locked. Such a player can pick up an ID card later,
provided he has been rostered by his team in time.

and.....

4. Rosters
4.01 Teams may have up to 15 players on their roster during a season. Teams in Div1-3 field
7 players in any one game, teams in M5 field 5 players in any one game. Teams in M7
Champions League may have up to 15 players on their seasonal roster, up to 9 players
on their tournament roster, up to 7 players on their game roster and field 5 players per
match.

I have emailed Barry with an explanation of our situation and my points of view about the current roster lock rules. I firmly believe that this is contributing to the lower team numbers as the season goes on. I would ask all other team owners in similar situations to let the Millennium Series know - if we all speak up, they will be able to see the extent of the problems the rules are causing and then can make an informed decision about any changes.
Syd, maybe what Chris (Chicago) is suggesting lies at the heart of people's resistance to get up off their ass and do something...maybe it's just too much effort if paintball to them is a mere pasttime.

It would explain a lot.....

I hope you get enough support to help change things Chris.
Good Luck mate, you are gonna need some.

I don't know that I'd say 'mere' pastime. I think I lot of people take their paintball much more seriously, at least as a part of their life, and what they think defines them as a person, than they do their real jobs.

Paintball can be your life, but not if you get fired from your real job and can't afford to play anymore....

See i agree with chicargo on this, but at the start of the year all the captains know they need to submit there roster by the 3rd event so by this time in the season you 'should' know who your players are going to be for the rest of the year, now unless you have 15 players to start with you should then start to organise the remaining spaces for spares for just in case you are caught short.

Also if someone leaves your team before the roster lock is in place (even thought they have already played a millennium event with you) will there spot then be made available again so you can replace them???

No, and I think that's what's tripping some of these guys up.

Of the 7 uk teams that have played Div 1 this season (ECI, Cynergy, Storm, Redemption, Quake, Northern Heroes, Evil Saints) as far as I'm aware, only Storm and ECI are playing Belgium!
This isn't why weren't playing we just set out to do the 1 event this year
to guage where we are looking to next season. An evil saints played m5 in belgium probably because of the ass whoopin they got in London in div 1.
