now now, lets not get upset at troy for being ignorant and opening his mouth and talking like and idiot saying he maxed penn state when really he didnt. its not his fault his mouth is so big and made him look like a fool. his head is large and over swollen by his ego, it must have gotten in the way of what he was really trying to say which was the following:
"I love penn state, they are great, i love the ncpa, i wish i could play for them, and i love jesus"

its ok troy, i forgive you. :)

Kids, that's a mighty big chip on your collective shoulders

Relax guys.
Paintball is played on the field not in the forums. :)

I'm looking for reliable information, nothing else.

Rob--you mean in the last 8 days ESPN showed an interest in filming some X-Ball exhibition with no assigned teams, the Pros objected, the schedule was changed for WC and the college teams were invited to play during the week? I think that time table is off a bit. Any clarification would be appreciated.

I know, I know I shouldn't be stirring this pot of... well you-know-what any more but I can't help it.

First of all, I apologize for my hand in this whole blemish on the usually smacktalk-free P8Talk boards. See, I was the one who discovered this thread and told my team about it, though I had no idea what kind of reaction it would provoke. I will admit, Baca Loco and Troy, that those words, when I read them, really truly hurt my feelings as an aspiring paintballer who just happens to be in college at the right time, and has an opportunity to help in a small way to bring this sport to an entire new level, who is going to work his ass off and try to represent his school and the sport of paintball in such a revolutionary event. However, instead of getting support from our fellow paintballers, our skill level is criticized, and we're told that we're not good enough to promote the sport we love. Yeah, so we're not the greatest paintball players in the world, but at the same time, I believe that we could represent this sport as well as any other team out there, just as well as Troy's team, or any other team, Pro, Amateur, Novice or Rookie. We just happened to have gotten the opportunity, is all... let's hope we make the best of it, for us and for paintball.

At the same time, I must apologize for some of my fellow teammates' replies, because as we all know, two wrongs don't make a right (and a max is indeed, a flag pull, a hang, and the elimination of all opposing players, regardless of how many players are left on your own team), and although it's probably way too late, I hope that you'll maybe excuse this less-than-friendly first impression of our team, our club, and our school. It's just that hearing things like that will make our emotions go off, and I think that passion like that is part of what greatness is all about, even though in this particular instance it manifested itself in a less than constructive manner. I wouldn't want to go to X-Ball with any other group of players in the world.

Baca Loco, I don't know what ESPN, Procaps, or the NPPL know, or when they knew it. I knew about the screwed up schedule, and I myself was wondering why it was the way it was until last week, which is when we got the email from the NCPA, inviting us to play. Like it said on the press release, we were one of the, "12 lucky teams who answered the call," and we're going to take advantage of this opportunity to show paintball to the world and help spearhead the growth of X-Ball and paintball in general. All we ask is for your support. Thanks for listening to my ranting and rambling.

and for those guys who took it personally, I humbly apologise--as is only appropriate as I am your humble moder8or. :)

I certainly hope you all enjoy the opportunity but I'm more interested in the genesis of all this as it relates to developing X-Ball plans, the time table of events and the participation of the PSP and the NPPL--and the fact EVERYBODY else involved is being assigned second-tier status and asked to pay for the privilege.

PS--please feel free to come on back anytime. BTW, Go Blue!:D

You might ask yourselves why us and why is anyone willing to pay--even a share--for us to come play? (I can guess but I'd like to know, ya know. . .)

First I feel I must apologize for my fellow college paintball players, Penn State and other's.

To Troy, I must congratulate you and your team on doing well against Penn State. I personally do not know the IAO scores for them so I can not say more then that.

As for X-ball. Originally they did not have anyone in mind for X-ball. The idea of having X-ball at the WC came a little later then some might have hoped. When X-ball was announced to be held at the World Cup it was simply assumed that the pro's would play. That was about the last week in Aug. or so. Then about 10 days ago ESPN and Fox News showed interest in doing a possible filming of X-ball in the future. They said they would send a representative and maybe a crew to watch it. To this the Committee decided that they wanted to put on the best show possible and and not to risk possible outbursts from Pro teams (as well as very tired Pro teams from their other events). So they asked the college teams 8 days ago if they could do it.

Well it took all of 24 hours for 12 college teams to say they were willing to pay their way to get down there. We are responsible for everything ourselves. A very costly project.

As for the pro's in X-ball. The original idea was that the pro's would not play x-ball at all. But through some bargin I am not sure of they got it aranged to play on Sunday. This threw off the NCPA x-ball schedule which was supposed to have its finals then, that then pushed one other thing out of the way and so on and so on. No one is really at fault, it's just how things happened.

As I said, I have played both sides of the spectrum and I can feel where this is coming from, but I feel that if we really want our sport to grow we will need major compaines like ESPN looking into filming it, and personally I think college teams will get more attnetion then teams such as Ground Zero, Avalanche, Dynasty, or The Family. To people outside of paintball...Ground Zero is the center of a nuke, Avalanche is what you want to avoid when skiing, Dynasty's died in China, and The Family is their momm and pappa.

Gah. Let's clear some stuff up here.

Ok, since I am the main go-to guy on this on the NCPA end, let's clear up a few things.

- X-Ball on Sunday with 8 teams selected by invitation (depending who you ask, top 8 pro, or top 4 am and top 4 pro, I really don't know) had already been announced before there was any hint of college xball at world cup. That included the whole world cup schedule with the Am's playing on Tuesday-Wednesday. We had nothing to do with that. I still have very little clue what's going on on the pro/am xball end as that's someone else's show to run.

- We play Thursday until Saturday at the same location as the NPPL/PSP 10-man. The CHAMPIONSHIP final game is currently scheduled for Sunday, probably in the morning, at disney's Wide World of Sports at Disney World. That means the vast majority of the "Disney Time" is going to the pros, but from my perspective, that's not all bad as we get time in front of the paintball audience.

- If ESPN or Fox or whoever expressed an interest in filming it, this is the first I've heard of it. As far as I'm aware, there are no intentions to film the college teams play. If I'm wrong, I certainly won't be complaining, but it hasn't been anything put on the table before me. If there happen to be ESPN/Fox/Whoever representatives there, you can sure as hell bet we plan on putting ona good show. College aged players, college team names, college level sportsmanship. Are the players as good as the pros? Of course not, then they wouldn't be COLLEGE. Is this going to detract from the entertainment to the spectator? I definitely don't think so.

So the basic summary is the college stuff came together after everything else was pretty much decided and we're taking space and time not used by anyone else, aside from making room for one college game on Sunday at Disney. Everything else is just "another event at World Cup".

If paintball is going to be successful long term, we are going to need a good pro league *AND* a good college league. This isn't being done in opposition to or at the expense of anyone else, this is just one more thing that needs to be done to promote paintball's future.

Major props to those that have "moderated" their replies.

Having been through X-balls debut with the England squad, I would be happy to provide any assitance I can if you want to ask anything (mail is in my sig).

I'm no oracle, but we made some fundamental mistakes that cost us heavy at the beginning, if you avoid them you should be good to go.

Regards,
