The other half has a couple of these for opening jars, when I am not around obviously..........

Gives you great grip to get most things apart.
If you still can't get it apart put a strap wrench around it any try again.
Failing that, freeze the barrel and put hot water on the back to expand it and try it again.
Failing all the above sell it as a one piece barrel
