I'd say that a well maintained Max Flo (the real ones, don't know about the things they stick on shockers and ions nowadays) is probably still one of the most consistent (and biggest!) regs out there.

Anyway, the trend for high quality adjustable regs has faded in the last couple of years, nowadays everyone uses screw-in presets for simplicity's sake, and every HPA tank will come with one. As an input to the Max Flo, either low or high output regs will work fine. I'd generally recommend the high pressure option though because flow rate is less of an issue.

I'll keep my eyes peeled and wait till payday before I splash out =)
On a side, how much is a vision impulse, cricket board + freak barrel set worth these days? not much I bet. Shame really as it used to shoot fast and not chop paint, what else is there that makes these new ones worth that much more?
