I just had a look at the refurb site and noticed that all they have this week in your price range are Macbook Airs (the really skinny one) They are a bit light on ports and don't have a cd/dvd drive. I think they update the availability on wednesdays. Have a look after that at standard Macbooks.

Maybe its just me but it seems really wrong that they need you to have a specific brand of computer to do an educational course.
Being some one who is also heading to uni to do a creative course and who has extensive experience using both macs and pcs for various creative projects (graphics work, animation, illustration, photomanip, webdesign etc)

I can whole heartily say, there is no difference either are equally suitable and any claims about needing a mac for design work is purely pretence. You're paying to have them double as a fashion accessory. Much like skullcandy headphones or alienware gaming pcs

I like macs but will continue to use pcs until macs stop being so ridiculously over priced.

That being said raven, i'm sure your daughter has her heart set on a mac book so if this info is actually any use i dont know.

Well that makes alot more sense.
Im glad to know corporate brands have not completely infiltrated the UK education system to push their shoddy wares on our unsuspecting offspring.

I have to admit I was the same at uni.
Even skint students have to have the latest brands.

Its the last time you can honourably sponge off your parents so you have to make the most of it ;)
