Advice for first time at a milenium event

Hi,

I have been playing tournament paintball for just over 18 months now, and have been invited to play the campaign cup. Does anyone have any advice for someone making the step up form the series 2002 to the Milenium series? I played the Angel cup this year and that was quite a learning experience.

You do? Fantastic, coudya post it here?

Many thanks

Richard

I played my second millenium tourney this year (Toulouse).

Just try and concentrate on staying tight. Most teams also shoot alot more paint in the bigger tourneys, so im afraid your gonna have to shoot just as much if you want to try and control the field (putting in the dangerous players and taking the key positions).

Those are the main things i can think of at the mo...

First and foremost - make sure you go out there to have fun.
No idea who you've been invited to play for, but set yourselves small, achievable goals.

Pompey Uni just did Toulouse, and our goals were along the lines of:
Get there ;), don't finish bottom (we didn't), and don't be maxed every game (we almost did that, but for the Rushers - even Aftershock couldn't go through us for no losses :D ).

(For all you folks out there thinking "wow, Portsmouth Uni team have low expectations of themselves" I'd just like to say that the Toulouse squad had only played once together, and some of the guys had only played 4 or 5 tourneys ever, plus 2 or 3 rec-days).

Anything else was a bonus - especially the game we won.

Other things to bear in mind - make sure your kit is all working before you go, take plenty of bog-roll/water, and money for food.
Oh, and a few spare 9Vs are always helpful too.

Oh, and if you can afford it - a spare set of playing kit is nice - it sucks getting into sweaty horrible painted clothes at 5AM  :D

C-Ya there fella (I'll even give ya a play on my RaceGun ;)

Oh, and another thing -
just coz the team you're playing happens to be called "avalanche" or "russian legion" or similar -
don't mean they're any different from you or me -
just remember -
you're up against 7 punters with paintguns -
just go out there and play your own game.

i would say don't listen to a ord pompy uni say"what do there know"
but, then again, what does "here" know about anything to do with "ords"! :p ;)

some respect is due but not to much

like the title says only a punter would go out vs russian legion or avalanche with the viw seven player with seven guns.
respect is due to those hat deserve it.
but not to much .
i think flash you need to wake up and see what you r typeing.
no disrespect meant but to send a new team up with a pro team with the thought seven players seven guns is stupid.
cheers paul

I have to disagree Paul,

What is the better mindset to have going out on field?

a) "Oh crap, we're playing the best team in the world, we're not even gonna make our primary bunkers"

OR

b) "Cool, another game, here's our plan, lets go out and do whatever we can to take apart the other team"

Believe me, from experience, you go out there with mindset a, you don't make your primaries, and if you do, you play loose and sloppy, cos you're expecting to be taken out.

You go out there with mindset b, you play as hard as you can, and you never know, you may just click - heck, I'm sure I watched shockwave III almost beat a team out in Toulouse called Team JT or similar, with the likes of Rocky, etc playing for them.
Now, did you go out for that game thinking "uh-oh, 30 seconds till we get our asses handed to us".

I don't think so! :)

you miss-understand

you seem to of misunderstood a simple thing.
yes we won jt usa on head count and kiced yank arse.
but:eam
what we didnt do is go out with the seven guns vs seven guns attitude.
we all know rocky and co are class players:
so we didnt treat them as punters we gave them respect as i hope there gave us:
if there didnt and thought oh a novice team , we will kick there arse:well boy's big mistake.
no respect for any team is complacent.
any game in the milenium series is like you r playing the top pros.
if not why bother turning up :.

ever.

Dude, we seem to be argueing along the same point (almost).

The 7 markers vs 7 markers thing doesn't mean showing no respect for the other team, quite the opposite.
The point is that you don't go out to play "in awe" of the other team.
As a n00b team, you know that you're not gonna win many games (if any) - but if you just go out and play your own game, you'll learn things.

Maybe the way I phrased it before wasn't the best way - it's just how I say it to myself. I should have said - just another team, rather than 7 punters. That's the way I intended it.

The main thing is to have a certain level of respect for your opponents, but keep that the same for who-ever you play.

And a head count victory is still a draw really. ;) (just my opinion - I don't wish to take away anything from your achievments against Team JT - you guys played some excellent ball)

Peace..
