I use a Spyder Xtra and my other (potential) team members use Tippmans, I find that the Spyder has a better feel to it, and you're not locked into one manufacturers gear (think of it as Windows Vs an Apple Mac),

As a noob a cocker's not a great idea unless you know veterans or someone that knows how to upgrade one, they're a lot of work to adjust....(but i've got one next on my Wish list)

The guys that use Tippmans will say use a Tippman, those that don't will possibly reccomend the Spyder or another marker altogether...But as twisty says, try before you buy!

The Spyder (i'm told) is more "playable" as a tourney marker and I can get 8-10 bps from it (and that's newbie rate of fire!! :p), whereas the tippman 98's are getting 6-8...the Tippman A5 a mate uses fires faster (reactive trigger will help), but to knock out the myth that a Tippman is more reliable than a Spyder, the past two events both Tippman players have had to get the Allen Keys out and the only probs I had have been with my Revvy falling off because of a loose feed neck.... so don't discount the Spyder on reliability terms. The worst thing i've heard about the Sypders, though, is that every now and then you'll get a crap gun in the batch which will consistently screw up on you, so it's maybe worth picking up a new one and keeping hold of that receipt.

Think that just about covers my opinions......(I just don't like the Tippmans, they look naff and put me in mind of Nokia mobiles, peeps buy them 'cos they're the easiest and everyone else has got one, and they're mass marketed...:D )

Damn, you got me..... ;)

I was meaning the whole "Let's make it look like an assault rifle to appeal to the kiddies(?!), and market the whole idea, lifestyle package" etc, etc......I'm waiting for the Tippman Cufflinks :p

But I concede the point, after all the main prob with the Spyder rejects is that they're a mass-produced marker and throw out a few dodgy ones....My Xtra's still sweet as a nut though *Grins*

Throw mass-production to the wind......get an Angel

What to buy?

All the above - but remember -

1) Try B4 you buy - you need to feel comfortable with what you use
2) Buy what you can afford - look at possible upgrades. If you buy an oldish cocker you can always have it tweaked and put a RaceGun frame on it in time
Cockers are the most accurate - don't know why... but they are
3) 20BPS is not the answer - its how you use it

Best bet is to buy a decent second hand gun, decent hooper (perhaps a viewloader with x-board), and decent air system. With the exception of the hopper, I've just sold a 97 cocker (that had been tricked a little) with a recker barrel, a smartparts barrel, a 692 DAC barrel, a couple of original ally barrels and air system for £185 - so there are deals out there.. and don't forget to check out e-bay!

Keep the faith

Yeh, but have you got two 12v adapters for your moped yet Dave?? :p :p :p

Punterhunter...20 bps makes a difference when you're laying down a defensive line...as i've just realised, my Spyder's less likely to stop a Front player on a Mugging run than an Impulse or Angel, it depends what you're using it for...horses for courses and all that....

As for ebay gear...check out the minimag, £125 last time I looked for a bag full of gear and a sweet little marker...
