Because the community is so small any griping about a player or team can cause personal offence or the comments are taken literally because that comment can and will be heard. Stars from other sports grow to ignore the media and other commentators because they are so far removed from it. In Paintball, a magazine might slag you off but then want you to write an article or give an interview a few months down the line, because there are so few 'stars' to choose from.

When your having a pop at a 'superstar' from Baseball or Soccer the chances of you interacting with that player are nil. In Paintball, if you publically criticise Pro team A and you play for Am team Z, at some point you might meet in a division - extra love all over the place. Rivalaries do exist but why pull the tail on the Tiger and put yourself in a situation you could avoid?

Until the top teams are elevated away from the masses and the fan base increases out of sight we will probably all be keeping the peace because we do have a sense of community. How many other sports would see Pro players sitting in the stands chatting with lesser players and other spectators? None. Playing Paintball, at whatever level and whatever style can only really be appreciated by other Paintballers. That is why the back stabbing is so limited, we all respect what the other players do. :)

Now where's my hug?

First of all, let me state that I've met Baca Loco in person and I consider him a friend. However, I've never found myself wanting to give him a hug, and I don't foresee myself wanting to give him a hug in the near future.

Having said that, and in a vain attempt to answer his question, the reason I think that you don't see alot of contention within the sport (at least publically) is that the sport and its' media aren't developed to the point yet where that sort of debate can be had by two regular guys. The celebs in this sport are extremely accessible, so that leads to a connection between them and regular mortals that doesn't exist between big time football, baseball, and basketball players and their fans.

Now then...if there are hugs to be given, I think Lisa Harvey should do the hugging...

It's cos the publishers are whining, lily-livered pussies who would have left Watergate, Irangate and, er, my yard's gate un-exposed if they were in charge of the mainstream press at tha time.

See, a brother comes along and speaks tha truth in tha magazine in his own lil column, tha publisher gets a few measly letters from lawyers, tha editor takes a coupla death threats, and what happens, they can me.

Chicken****s, all of em.

I assure you I'm not holding anything in.

Here's another example--the "new" Miami Effect is likely composed of the All-As (AA2 am squad) and Nasty X. Now this is a sad and pathetic joke on the NXL 'cus these guys can't even compete with the Jax Worriors. That statement is unlikely to offend the vast majority of readers on this forum or anywhere else for that matter but might annoy AA2, Nasty X and Jax players. My point is, so what? I can make a strong case for my view being accurate so what does it matter that I happen to know some of those players or that they may be in a position to reply to my critique.
