Okay, so X-ball has come and gone. People seem to be quite impressed by it, although it had a few minor teething problems, but that was to be expected from a new concept.
However, there is, as almost usual, a lot of complaining about the judging at this event. I'm pretty sure that we all agree that having the finals judged by people from the same nation as one of the finalists is a bad idea, and that, as in other events, having teams that participate in the series do the judging.
Problem is we can't really switch to another method of getting judging staff (yet), simply because there is no real independant body of judges (although the PRO is trying at the moment). It just seems to be real hard to find enough guys willing to do it.
Now I am curious to see who would be willing to be a judge for a season in the Millennium series/NPPL (whichever applies to where you're from)?

I'd be willing.

Depending a lot on the remuneration. Next question is what is reasonable? NPPL pays $100 per day + food and drink. That isn't too bad. Then there is the question of travel expenses. Import 30 - 60 refs for a major tournament and you got yourself some major expense.

How many refs would be needed for an entire Nations' Cup? 15 or 20? Maybe the cost for importing an international crew would be reasonable in relation to the possible revenue such an event could generate.

Go PRO!

can we put that to a poll? ;)

Anyways, as for a full seasons reffing? nah, I'd rather play - which is the main problem we have at the minute, that and the fact that in paintball the judges descision doesn't seem to be final - players are all to quick to argue and shout at the judge - something I'd rather not contend with - it's bad enough being shot to shiznit when someone wants to wipe :eek:

For now, playing is the most attractive option, which I guess it will stay for a while.

Hey Flash,

I understand how you feel. And I accept that as perfectly reasonable.
But in Holland we have a saying that goes "If you're going to change the world, the best place to start is yourself". Which to me means that I don't really have a right to bitch and moan, unless I'm willing to be part of a solution. Therefore I'd put myself forward if 'the call' ever came.

But that's me.

A fantastic outlook on things Buddha, I wish everybody had those views.

I say definatley no to a full season judging, if it came down to it, I'd judge an event per season if it were the rules of the series I'm playing in, but after the last time I judged a tourney, I have no wishes to step back into my pink goggles at a tourney - too much aggro from random people, and barely enough pay to cover my transport costs that day.

What we need is a bunch of people who are non-players, that also gets rid of the "scratch my back this time, and the favour gets returned" syndrome. This however, aint gonna happen in the long run, maybe in 10 years time when the current crop of top players have retired from competition (too old/slow/etc) but wish to stay involved in the game, I don't know.

i marshal the punters on my local site and i love it.......but refing tourney players is a thank less task..i thought refing football was bad enough untill i saw the agro tourney refs get. is it any wonder that not many ppl are keen on doing it and the calibre of who do is low. {at smaller tourneys}
