Once you are sorted out with kit, i suggest you find local sites that have walkon days. Walkon days are cheaper, allow any player with there own kit to play. The experience will be much more enjoyable playing against other players with there own markers, plus you make a lot of friends.
I can agree with this totally. being a new player myself I found I learnt more in one walkon than I learnt in 15+ rental days.

To be honest, i didn't buy my own marker for rental days for quite a while. I decided it was more important to spend the money improving my skill at the game by going first. Someone with lots of experience would be able to scrap someone with little experience and an expensive gun.

I'd go for an SLG for speedball and walkons and if you still want to go to punter days, go with their markers, just get an electronic hopper and good goggles. You'll have a big enough advantage by doing just that.

That is the best advice in this thread!

Thanks all,

At the moment i'm thinking a BT4 with a decent air tank, hopper and mask will be about the best setup. I figure later down the line when I can find a regular Supair game to get in on i'll be able to get myself a suitable marker and otherwise have everything I need. Probably a bit of a waste geeting the BT4 at all really but I think I'd just prefer to play with my own marker so I can develop some notion of at least roughly where my shots will go as the local rental guns are, well, inconsistent on a good day!

Re Walkons i'm hoping to get along to one but my friends who are also in process of aquiring first marker seem oddly reluctant to leave the confines of the local valley. Whats the atmosphere generally like at these events? May just have to put out a lonely hearts style add and see if i can tag along with a team or something lol

On a not entirley unrelated note does anybody happen to know if an Invert Halo too will fit sraight onto a BT4 Combat or will I need one of those rip clip deals which i hear so much about but have little understanding of.

BT4 set up will be fine mate. You are right aswell, playing with your own marker is naturally beneficial if you know something about it (you can learn) and can maintain it etc yourself.

You will be fine going to a walkon or not. Its all up to you mate. Important thing is to get out and play. The more experience you gain, the better your experience will be.

I have no idea what a rip clip is :(

Spot on - would be my advice too

Many sites are reluctant to let 'own gunners' face off against rental customers. It usually leads to arguments, aggro and loss of business for them one way or the other. Put yourself in the shoes of the rental customers, and think how they will feel being shot to bits every game, by some local hero using the latest PM/DM/EGO etc.. Established venues in my area run individual days for walkon/rental players for good reasons, and at the very least keep them on different fields if attending on the same day.

Where are you based out of interest?

a rip clip is a side loader made by BT. or so thats what am told.

its basicaly your standard loader only difference is it loads from the side of the marker and isnt as ball friendly as top loaders.

I'd avoid both the ripclip and the halo too with a bt4 to be honest. Ripclips are for bt's only and are primarily designed with the idea of having a hopper but it still looking like a real gun. They're essentially a £30 hopper but because they keep the marker looking realistic they flog them for loads. Also, i wouldn't worry about a halo too on a bt4 either as your not going to be able to shoot more than 3-4 bps (balls per second) anyway so 20+ is kind of unnecessary unless you're going to be looking to upgrade within 3 months or so.

My suggestion with a bt4 is to spend no more than £30 and go with an agitator new (ie reloader 2) or go for a second hand reloader b or halo b.

My two cents.
