I for example, have not got anything like 500 quid to spend on a gun, if that was the price I would never have got into paintball, and therefore that in itself means the industry would have missed out on roughly 700-800 quid since i started. Think how many people there are like that, and therefore how much money would be lost. I am not as you say a 'sponging kid' i put a lot back into my local site especially, but also try to help out in any way i can. I think that losing so many players from an already small player base would be disastrous.

I don't think paintball is cheap at all to be honest, I like paintball a lot but because of how much it costs it stops me doing other things, I don't really know any other hobbies or sports cost this much...

Paintball is not cheap, maybe for those of us who choose it as a hobby it is cheap. For those of who who do it as a lifestyle it is not cheap, it is by far one of the most expensive sports out there to play regularly.

Personally if you think the cost should go up, you haven't thought this through. In what circumstances is less players ever a good thing? Seriously. Stupid idea.
If you want to make paintball more exclusive that would benefit the people who do it for a hobby, but not the people who base their lives around it, in the times of trying to help tourney paintball grow cheaper is better.

Dinghy Racing (especially the International 14 class - £4k for a mast and £9k for 2 suits of sails that will last 2 season Max! not to mention £20K for a competitive hull w/o fixtures or fittings)
Off-shore Powerboat Racing (has been likened to standing in a freezing cold shower tearing up £50 notes)
Motorbike Racing
Sports car Racing

There's more, but that will get you started. Paintball is a bargain compared to those

Paintball has never been as cheap!! and yeah its now too cheap. I can remember paying £700 in late 2004/2005 for a Nexus dc2 cocker secondhand!!! There always seemed to be a bigger base of players back when it was a lot more expensive.

I think the market is getting flooded with cheap markers, players who join thinking they will be the next ollie lang and then leave 3 months later when they realise its a lot harder to point the barrel in the right direction than they had firstly thought! there isnt the staying power nowadays than yesteryear? is it society, the cost, parents, etc etc so many factors but there is a big turnover of players!

having players come in for 3 months then leave is a lot more advantageous to the sport than not having those players at all. Think about it, youve never played this sport before, you want to give it a go, play for a team, if the cost of that will be around 1000 pounds to get a good set up and play one tournament, would you try it? i wouldnt. that leaves us with a gaping hole where our base of new players once was, taking away not only the ones who stay for 3 months, but also those who actually WILL become the next ollie lang

You're just trolling now right? Repeat custom is core to nearly every business, especially one as consumable-driven as paintball.

Yorkshire.
These days it's lowballing kids who want and expect the best for next to nothing.
...and then shoot you.

If you're saying you would like the sport to become more "exclusive" due to it housing fewer youths and poor people, you're probably in the wrong place mate. Try Bowls instead. :)
