Hello everyone, i would just like to say now, thank you for taking the time to read this thread.
As many of the amatuer paintballers within Scotland and North of England will know, there is a lack of facilities within the area of the scottish central belt which could comfortably accomodate tournament paintball. To my own knowledge there are very few speedball sites within the country, but these are either rendered useless by T's & C's, or simply too far for travelling.
To summarise, the plan which a fellow 'baller and myself wish to follow is this: to publicize, construct and manage a permanent PSP style speedball field, which could host training, walk-on's and most importantly, tournament style play.
The way in which we hope to acomplish this is what appears for the moment to be a relatively simple process. In much the same way as college level basketball, football etc is played in the states, we want to introduce this within the university level in the UK. As the universities in Scotland begin working in September '10, we would like to take forward the proposition of a grant from the university being paid to allow the contruction of these facilities.
To justify this there would be a steady income from teams and/or punters wanting to play at these facilties, as well as jobs being created for referees and administration staff. There would also be a considerable boost to any income whenever tournaments would be played. There are already paintball societies within the unviersities and so this would allow the basic form of an amatuer university paintball league.
If we are to take this proposition forward, we have to justify that there is a market to provide it to, as well as a guarentee of profit for the university. This is where you can help.
If it is possible to prove this market exists, it would give us a much more powerful position with which to negotiate. This is because they would know before a penny was paid that there were customers waiting and most importantly for them, profit to be made.
What i would like to ask of you, is that if such plans were to go ahead, would you play at these facilities? Please only show your support if you would realistically travel to play within the area of Glasgow.
i must also reiterate that this is still the most basic stages, and that for the time being, there is no guarentee of when the facilties would be ready, or if indeed they will even be considered. However any support which is given would be strongly appreciated since as i said before, this gives solid proof that there is a market available.
Once again i would like to say thank you for any and all support, and i will take any questions or criticism which you have to offer.
Liam
