If you talk in terms of the Federation there are only 2 events, Masters and NSPL. That is not too many events cos your catering for the North/Midlands and the South which is fair enough and as has been said a finale in the terms of the Championship.
I know of the CPPS and is it FREEKZ or some other tournament much further down south. Now in terms of location except Scotland they are spread quite nicely around the UK for all teams to attend and play.
IMO there isn't too many events cos everyone has a chance to play and not too far to travel but if your looking at too many events then the focus comes down to what the Federation is trying to do and therefore only 2 events.
You cant stop other people running events and teams will choose which series they want to play for there own reason. Obviously if there is a chance of prizes at each event and ultimately a chance of a bigger prize then teams are gonna go along that line and raise their game to compete.
