Maybe we should demand series points for our placings then - afterall, that is what the Millennium were contracted to deliver for us... five ranking events.

Thats f*cking ridiculous. How can they give points in a non scoring event? Very unfair.
They had to find some way of rewarding them, this way they don't need to put their hands in their pockets!
At each event three Division 1 teams MUST ref. That's how it works for a few years now. You can volunteer or be forced.
Will you be ok to pay flight tickets and registration fees for peanuts? When you are on the field doing a hell of a work ten hours a day you don't care if it's a non scoring event.

Bite me. You know you're talking crap and its about as unfair as it could get. Don't compare a non ranking event to three years of ranking events.
I've reffed plenty of Millenniums at my own cost and know what work is involved. I don't blame the teams who have taken advantage of this... that's their decision. But it should never have been offered and makes a complete mockery of the whole crappy season.

I think the reasonbaly minded have no other choice than to side with Syd here, it all smacks of an ill-thought out arrangement and needs to be sorted out.
