Starting out - Help!

Hi, over the last few years i have been to my local paintball site about 9/10 times and i am considering stepping it up and starting to do some scenario/woodsball events, this is where i need some help, i am considering buying a marker but there are so many i dont really know where to start, i have seen a BT4 package at this link here http://www.store.justpaintball.co.uk/second-hand/ex-site-bt4-marker-package.html and am wondering the following things

1. Would this suit a woodsball/scenario style of play?

2. I live in the west midlands and apart from Bassets Pole i dont seem to be able to find any events or teams in my area - anybody know of any others?

3. Any other things i should know? (general i know!.. But still)

Any help given would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!

I am pretty new to Paintballing, so my experience is a hell of a lot less than most other folk on this forum, but the link you posted is really only punter day gear. If you are wanting to step it up then you need to be getting a decent mask, electronic feed hopper, HP Air system and a reasonable marker, etc etc minimum.
I can guarantee will find plenty of decent deals in the classifieds of the forum for the gear you need so I would seriously recommend you to look here rather than buy a package mate

Ok thanks for the reply! but what sort of markers suit woodsball/scenario play then? if you could name a few that i could go and have a look at it would be really helpful!

If your only wanting to play woodsball/scenario, you might be best going for a tippman A5, solid gun and lots of after market kit can be added to your liking. if you can get one with a flatline barrel on then all the better. If you are wanting to play woodsball/tournaments i would go for an ego 05. Solid build, fast accurate and fantastic customer service from planet eclipse. You can pick one up from 150 pound.

I think most decent electro markers will suit woodsball/scenario as they all are made to do one thing which is to fire a paintball, no matter the exterior they do the same job. I had a SLG UL 09 for my first marker which in my opinion is a great allrounder and was used numerous times at a woodsball site, I never had any problems and was very easy to maintain.

if i was you, i would be looking at electro markers.
they work just as well as a tipmann in the woods, and also have the advantage of a higher rate of fire, are alot lighter and if you decide you want to play tornement, you wont need a new gun!
this video will explain it alot better.
if your looking for a millitary feel to you gun, then go for a PS1 or SP8. (personaly prefer the SP1)

sites and teams: cant realy help you there, but i can guarantee it will involve a fair bit of travelling.

on the general info: buy a GOOD mask. if your buying new, no less than £40 and should have a thermal lens,
buy a HPA tank, thats High Pressure Air. dont use CO2, even if you do buy a tippmann or some other mechanical marker, use air, its 1000x better.
It is always cheaper to look for second hand stuff. browse the classifieds.

A Tippmann is always a good starting place as they are a very solid and reliable marker. I would recommend a X-7 or a A-5 both very good for scenario play. Do you have a good set of goggles as they have to be the most important thing in paintballing, its well worth investing in a descant pair that don’t steam up. No, i do not have a pair yet, but they are high up on my list of things i need to get, by the way there is a lot of different ones for a variety of prices and i was wondering what the differences are between a £25 pair and a say £60 pair?

Well for around £25 you are looking at a set of single lenses and they tend to steam up rather quickly, also with a cheaper set you will tend to find that they are not as good fit and the foam normally starts to wear a lot quicker. Were as a set around the £60 mark has normally a double lens and does not steam up. also the style and comfort is a lot better. it’s well worth investing in a descant set that doesn’t steam up.
