Depends on what style of play you prefer, but nowadays, sites tend to accept both electro and mech markers.

Despite being an Ion owner myself, i personally wouldn't recommend one, purely for the fact that there are better markers out there, and if you get an ion, the liklihood of you upgrading it is high. I personally would recomment either one of the following for a first time marker.

The ion retails at around £240 (from Fat bobs)

For an extra tenna, you can get a Dangerous power G3 from lips for £250
or for slightly less a Proto SLG 09.

for the time when i bought my ion, it was a decent marker, but today, i would personally go for something different.

BUt if you do end up getting an ion, and have any questions, Drop me a PM and ill help you out as best i can :)

Oh and Welcome to the forums

dont forget to browse the classifieds on here aswell ;)

Anything from planet will last you and bargains can be found.

best bet is to hang fire and get to a local walk on/tourney and try some gear out. or even go to your locla PB store and ask to handle some of the gats on their shelves.

Ion was my first marker and I really liked it.

The things to note are:
There are loads of up grades, but you need quite a few upgrades just to rival some of the lower end guns ie PMR or SLG.

If you have an ion XE its a good start as there easier to clean and maintain, bolt comes out of the back.

If you have the older addition ion its a pain as its not bolt out back, you've got to strip the entire marker just to clean the breach, this can leed to all sorts of problems ie leaks from the continuous strippping.

Over all I really liked my ion, it was perfect for me after a few upgrades.

Best bet is get down to your local site on a walkon and ask the players to test there guns over the chrono and see how they feel to you, also ask how you maintain them.
