As far as I remember It was 'Everything is Bollocks' and it was a comment on the Dutch Trance scene at the time ,hence the dig at the trance DJ Dimitri at the start,Techno in the UK moved into break beat (and then of course Jungle) leaving those of us that didn't like it one other path which was Industrial strength/Gabba(er
) that was about the time I stopped clubbing but I really liked some of those very early Rotterdam records.Acid house and Techno was huge in Edinburgh with my peer group ,at my age everybody was into being a football casual ,when Acid house came along the violence died quicker than you could say 'Dennis the Menace' and for some unknown reason everybody started being really nice to each other..
Speaking of gabber I was always led to believe it was the music of choice for right wing Dutch football casuals,playing it certainly did make clubs less friendly in the latter years it had a bad vibe about it.
You were led to believe correctly. Given the ethnicity of my social surroundings when I grew up (and still live in to be honest), it's no real surprise we've been involved in many a tussle with Gabbers (which is basically a Dutch slang for mates). Good thing I'm well versed in the ancient martial art of Mad Squabbles.
Another good thing was that the avarage Gabber was a very skinny white dude, high on speed and xtc and weighed no more than about 10 stone.
Pit that against a bunch of streetbred, big muh***kaz and it was always good fun to watch.
Seriously, people turned up to watch the fights. Shame that this was in the days before cameraphones.
