If your thinking of upgrading to IE.8 from IE.7, and are a paypal account user my advice would be don't bother. I've attempted to run IE.8 since upgrading last week, and had major aggro with forums, websites, and 3rd party software. The final straw was when I found it had stuffed access to my paypal account, blocking page functions and stoping me sending payments

I contacted paypal who were fully aware of the IE.8 issue, and advised reinstalling IE.7 to cure the problem. Apparently earlier releases of explorer like IE.6 & 7 were full of glitches, which other applications (such as paypal website) were modified to cope with. These errors have been corrected in IE.8, but this has resulted in many 3rd party applications going tits up.

There's been countless patches released for IE.8, in an attempt to fix this and other software issues. Seems like another case of Microsoft treating the general public as it's R&D dept

there is a page compatability button at the end of your address bar (looks like a page torn in half, i used this to get round the issues you have mentioned.

3 ghz quad core, 4 gig memory, it really doesn't impact that much on my system :)
Each to their own I suppose :)

AL
2.2ghz quad, 4 gig ram, but I still dont want to have to worry about having too many programs opening, or it freezing my computer when you try and open a page it doesnt like.
