ive seen it happen as well, i don't doubt your credentials but i am saying that tournament paintball is dieing as it simply don't make enough money, trade shows are getting smaller events have less funding. This may not be affecting us yet but it has hit American paintball hard and will undoubtably affect us because that how things go. Doing this will just speed the process up incredibly, im doubting it will effect rec ball as the people who play are rentals and needn't worry about gear.
Exactly the same has happened here Ses, and that is why we have set up a Federation to help try and sort it all out.
Our problem wasn't so much the cost although that was a significant factor but the actual product we were serving up wasn't good enough to sustain a healthy number of teams.

....but your conclusions in believing it will speed up any demise is where you begin to get it all wrong .... I repeat once again, NOBODY is forcing ANYBODY to use ANYTHING and therefore if you wanna jog along using .68 cal then good luck to you ... this is the crux of the mater Ses and the factor you seem to be missing every time.

50 cal is an option not a mandate.

I don't want to seem argumentative here,
But how can you have 2 different sized balls running alongside each other at the same event, especially if they both have different chrono limits.
This is one thing that i just can't get my head around.

...er no.....I'm not sure how many times I can restate this Ses, NOBODY means NOBODY ....... the PSP, USPL, Millennium, whoever ain't in the business of making things more difficult for the paying customer .... these people ain't stupid mate.

I'd have to say making the change at these events optional would be the best way to demonstrate that the caliber is advantagous. If the teams shooting 50cal have an obvious advantage over those with (old Skool) 68's, you can guarentee that by the next event every team in the higher leagues will be shooting 50s. Yes it would be complex with multiple chrono limits, and maybe the hits will be harder for the refs to spot (less fill = Smaller mark) but only time and testing will tell.

I'll be honest, I'm more concerned about replacing 200 rental tippmanns than how its going to affect tourneys!

Well I was behind this bush.....

.50 don't work ....... I'll tell you why

strokes now greying stubble , places pencil behind ear , casts mind back and yet futher back to the late 1980's .........

I was a young lad then , keen as mustard, niave , slim(sigh), and playing in the **** of the north tourney 10 man at paul hadwens site near leeds - Warpaint "the most fun you can have in someone elses clothes"

Me and the lads had smashed through on the left tape and were wrapping round to the base to grab the flag . A quick conflab - we thought we'd shot the lot out so up I gets and legs it keen to grab the flag again that day.

Only yards from the base and blast of shots rang out and riddled me down one side - clearly coming from a tipman semi 50 cal. it looked like a sten gun as I remember .

I hit the deck checked my self and realised even from that close range non had burst. What a 5hit gun I thought. Popped round the tree and pumped a load of R P schearer into the mug. Check that marshall.

Turned out hardly any of our team had been shot out by them

No wait don't leave I'll tell you about 6 paks and how scary pete robinson used to be........

I love stories like this, and I remember the Tippmann that shot the 50cal rounds, and yes, it did look just like a sten-gun. Was it the Tippmann SLG or something like that?
Adding 'Check that Marshall' at the end of your story really helped deliver the punch too.
