I Agree the price of the raw materials has gone up but do you really expect anyone to believe that it costs over £300 more per marker to manufacture?

I doubt it cost £300 or more to make one in total!

Just how much profit do manufacturers need to make?
Answer - what ever they can get away with
Do you know how much it costs to make a car? Or flat-screen TV?

I'll give you a clue - a damn sight less than what you pay in the stores. The rest goes on paying wages, R&D, Marketing etc. etc. all of which are essential costs in today's business environment if you plan on being around longer than 20 minutes.
Or perhaps you would prefer a communist/socialist state where the Government controls the price & supply of everything?

Christ - why is it everytime a PB manufacturer is forced to raise prices, people act like it's a personal attack on them? Take the bigger picture, look at how much cheaper most equipment is compared to just a few years ago and follow the golden rule of retail - if you don't like the price of something, then buy the cheaper alternative!

And with the ever present spectre of deflation hanging over our heads any inflationary pressure has to be a good thing!

Thank heavens for the weak pound eh!

On a serious note, Planet are never anything but fair, I couldn't see them doing something that would unecessarily do damage their business. Needs must and all that.

Also keep in mind that most companies like Planet do not raise their prices lightly, as they are fully aware of the impact it could have on their sales. So more likely than not, they have taken the brunt of the increase in price of the raw materials themselves, until it became too much.
Then a further thing to keep in mind is that the increase in price of the raw materials is made worse for everybody by import duties and so on...

See I've ruffled a few feathers here and there lol, but think about this:

Due to the fact that we have lowered our interest rates, it makes investing in Stirling undesireable with so little return, hence the value of the pound falls, this should be perfect for companys like Planet who manufacture from the uk, It means their products are cheaper to buy across the world, sales should be through the roof, especialy with America being the biggest market, Thousands of Americans can now afford top class markers where they could not before, sure your material costs might have risen 30% but the money should be being made on volume sales, I feel they have taken a greedy path by choosing higher price's rather than volume sales!

This is of course only my opinion

Your entire post hinges on this one word. Every major economy in the world is in recession. People dont buy in a recession, thus contributing to an even greater recession. So if planet aren't selling them, as every accountant (im generalising) will tell you, you up your price to cover your costs.

I would do what you're suggesting but for the company to weather the storm maybe this path is the lesser of two evils.

Just because you think thats the way it should be doesn't mean thats how it is in reality.

However we are now arguing a moot point. Ledz has explained the price increase. Thats the end of the story.
