Angel A1 paint breakage

Hi guys,

I used my A1 on a walkon about three weeks ago with a box of Frostbite and a box of Proto paint. The weather on the day wasn't that cold, I think the thermometer in the car was about 5-6degrees early in the morning, and it did get warmer in the afternoon. The frostbite paint was fine throughout the day, however the Proto was breaking maybe 20% of the time.

It mainly seemed to be when the ramping kicked in. The marker was chrono'd to about 285.

What should I be looking at to try and minimise the breakage next time I go? Was it just a case of being a little too cold for the proto although my friend firing a DM8 was fine with it?

Check the eyes first - make sure they work properly.

How old was the Proto? What settings did you have the A1 set to? Which loader are you using and what are it's settings.

The eyes are fine, I'd cleaned them before and made sure they were functioning correct.

The proto was bought from the shop the day before and kept in the house over night.

A1 was set to Semi with HR1, default values on the 2.6 firmware. I'm at work at the moment so I can't get the exact values, but I can post them later on.

Using a DXS Pulse, set on Pulse.

Well - that all seems fine. Did you try setting the "fragile paint" setting?

Other than that - I can only assume the Proto and the Angel had a row . Don't use it again.

turn the paint fragility setting to 2-3, if you go to 1 you can not reach 12bps ramping since it opens the dwell up to far.

is your bolt face in good condition too mate. the Kiss Technology is there to help.

Obvious question - was the paint to barrel match ok? If you were running too tight a bore, that would explain barrel breaks (and why your friend wasn't getting any).

I think Proto is usually quite a large bore too, seems like the most likely answer.

Detents in good condition?

If the paint is fragile the pulse can crack the balls in the stack, its worth trying a diffrent loader if you have to use the same paint.

I think it was on Fragile 3 or 4 from what I can remember. I didn't have the manual with me so I was unsure whether to turn it up or down, but I'll check that when I get home.

The bolt's still in good condition, the marker's only been used at most half a dozen times.

To be honest, I'm not entirely sure. The bolt itself had traces of paint on it, but not a lot at all, and the paint was prominent from the marker end to the first section of the barrel.

I'd been using a .693 for most of the day as I usually do and I'd had breaks, but I was experimenting with .687 later on in the afternoon. I did test the balls and they were held up in the barrel but a small blow down it popped them out.

Fresh set of detents put in before going as the last set got broken.

My mate has a Dye Rotor so I'll give that a go next time and see if things are any different. Is it a common incompatibility between Angel and Pulse?
