In my own opinion, I would not get a shocker, I'v owned both an Ion and a Shocker NXT.
Things I found wrong with a stock shocker (you need to spend however much you buy the shocker for, and then spend that much on upgrades for a feedneck, trigger, board).

The Shocker is supposed to be the best upmarket smart parts marker they make, IMO, save your money and get a planet EGO 06/07, ETEK 2, DM7/8, these will take your game to a much higher level if that is where you want to develop it to be in the not too distant future.

If your looking for casual play, Get upgrades for your Ion :) you'll have a blast upgrading it slowly each time you take it out on walk ons.

In Summary:
Fun walk-ons; upgrade your Ion
Tourney ball; Get a gun that is not no smart parts :p its just easier in the long run.

All this is my personal opinion and I have spent the last 5 mins trying not to be as anti-smart parts as possible.

If in doubt try the shocker, if you fall for it get it :)

if you do go for an sft shocker make sure that at least you have the High Efficiency bolt kit and a locking feedneck.

once you know your way around a shocker they are very nice markers - but they are not the simplest to track down problems with.

if you want recommendations on shcokers PM Balf on here - he is the guru of the shocker tech.

Got to agree with simmershot on this, unfortuately the NXT Shocker has sadly been left behind by rival markers llike the 2009 Proto PMR,PM8 & the ETEK range in performance and value for money etc.....
Either the latest shocker should be retired or given a complete makeover for 2010...
