my new toy (Gen 5 timmy) has sprung a minor leak,,i field stripped the Protege until it was a pile of bits and bobs.

It all looked way dry with just a slight residue of Dow 55 on it,when i compare it too the manual photos which look like the components are made of dow 55 i can only conclude that after i bathe it in a bucket of lube the leak will disappear as the o rings swell.

I have a question tho,it says in the manual that the Gen 5 will use either high pressure or low pressure air systems fine,but then confusingly it says that if you have an adjusta flow reg to set the output to 500psi from the bottle,i reckon my 68/45 is outputting somewhere in the region of 850 psi which is almost double the optimum of 500,can i damage the noid like this?

I thought the timmy had an adjustable reg ?? this is so you can set the amount of pressure passing through the timmy ??

You mean the grub on the bottom of the HPR like on the ego HPR? I have wound this right out with the gas on and then gradually wound it on till
the marker operates.Leaks like a bag of leaks. Still i guess i can control the pressure with the velocity adjuster on the HPR. I have this gauge which i think is for measuring the operating pressure but i'l be blowed if i can work out how to use it. It has a thread near the neck of the gauge but there is no thread on the gun i can find which matches it,and it aint in the manual. More research.

take the ram cap off and slide the HPR tool into that hole

The timmys normaly have 2 regs and hi and low.

The hi normaly takes the 800 psi from the bottle to a more managable pressure for the low pressure reg to handle. Most timmys run at about 50-60psi depending on the boards settings

Also timmy's can leak from so many places you'll have to take the side cover off and air the marker up

Ahh nice one mate,the leak is a bit of a nightmare to locate as i cant gas up the noid and be able to inspect it at the same time because of the design of the Protege.

But when i gass it up the noise is loudest just forward of the grip and above,right where the noid is,i've stripped it down to its consumate parts and had a good butchers inside,all the orings are good and seated properly,all the noid hoses are on properly.Just very little lube anywhere.

but the surface where the noid meets the body is alsmost devoid of Dow could it be that a positive seal is not being made beacause of the lack of lube?

Ah haaaaaa so you take the gauge and take out the ram then put the gauge in the cavity and screw it on,that makes sense theres also this milled round metal thingy with a thread at one end and like a valve on the other,cant work out what it does,any ideas ?

Btw thanks for the info,thats quality,i've joined the IOG and theres a fair bit on there but not a massive amount of Gen 5 info.

By the way,is that VAQ 33 as in US Navy EW?,i've seen that on a tail flash of an EA 6 intruder before.

the thing to remember with dow 55 and bob long guns is that the dow actualy expands the orings slightly in order to make the seal solid. If you lacking that seal leaks apear ofc.

I would give it a complete breakdown and maintainance, replace and relube everything. Ensure that ure pressures are right (as described earlier in the thread) and give it a shot.

Wicked,i'l get on that,i was laways cautious of taking autocockers apart but when i took the Protege to bits it was a cinch,hardly anything to it,but lots of o rings ! After i've caked everything in dow is it worth leaving it for a few hours to let the o rings expand before trying to gas it up? When do i'l slowly wind on the oops so i dont crank it on too much. The guy i traded it with said it never leaked beofre but hasnt been used for a bit,i bet the o rings just need to swell and they will seal,its dry as a bone in there man.


I'm need to find a place that sells the o ring kits,i think lum or gassy posted up a link for an e bay shop called something earth or earth something,cant find the link when i've tried to back track.

i'l get searching,then again the manual lists the o ring sizes,i might see if i can just buy loads of assorted o rings over here.
