Can I just say ego 05 This is the best gun and with in your budget. I have mine for yonks and it's still fully working. Also they are easy to set up so no worries about is my ramp set correctly etc. If I was you an 05 ego Total Standard. You don't want any upgrades as they they where the dogs nuts when they left the factorty.
You Sir, are a fool. Probably down to your age, so I forgive you.
You are almost right, but the way you said it was terrible and slightly blanket. The Ego5, is not the best gun. And the originals could benefit for one or two aftermarket parts. It is an excellent marker, especially for the price it can be had for, but the 07/08 version are far, far better markers. The 09, I would imagine, is also an improvement.

The Bob Long Intimidator, is in my opinion, a steaming pile of donkey plop.
The Eclipse Ego and Etek, are pretty much the same as the Intimidator (basic function), with the exception that the Eclipse markers actually work, are reliable, you can get spares for them and they aren't ugly as sin.

You should consider your technical ability when choosing a marker. I would only ever shoot a Dye/Proto if I didn't shoot an Ego (would love a GEO).
For someone who has little technical ability or money to have stuff repaired, I would suggest an Ego. After that, DM/PM markers.
Both markers (type) are fantastic, but for me, the Ego comes out on top for its technical side. It is simpler, simply.

I have no real opinion of the Mini, other than it is more complex than an Ego, and more likely to go wrong. It is however, not much larger than a toothpick stabbed into a rubber, which I suppose is good, if you like small things.
I wouldn't buy a Mini, for anything other than a backup and just to see what it's like, but then, I am pretty confident tech wise. If anyone on a team I was on, wanted to buy a Mini, I would try to dissuade them, as I would be the one fixing it and ultimately, it would not be something I consider to be reliable.

When you are the one fixing the guns, you can run through a teams Ego's, pretty quick and know what to look for, as well as it being apparent, what you are looking for.

I am sure the advocates of Mini's are more than happy with them, but if you have a problem at a site, there will be someone who can fix an ego and likely have spares...possibly not true for a Mini or lots of other markers...especially Intimidators.

£200 for an Ego is good money. It won't ever be new, because even the 05 was £700 new. New Egos are around £700-£1200.

Tom Allen, trusted Welshman. Ego 5.

You may find an Ego6 for that money, if you keep your eye on the Fore Sale thread. Also the Platinum Members Classifieds too.

There's generally no point in pb snipers. All markers work around the same velocity, meaning that the range is all roughly the same. Unless you're going with a tippman with a flatline or apex barrel, there's really no difference.

Invert mini is a good marker to start with, it's functional, has plenty of aftermarket parts if anything needed replacement, it's definately good if you want something like that

But yeah, second hand egos and eteks. You can get a second hand ego 06 upwards in the classifieds and you'd really have no issues with it.

: )

And if you really want to buy new, some online shops will do a starter pack with an invert, inc mask and air system etc. Have a look at Sites like LIPs or justpaintball.

There's really no issue with buying second hand though.

If you are going to play paintball,, you don't want any marker that runs CO2, full stop.

Ego's will not run CO2 because they are good and CO2 is pants.

Hopper wise. Egg2, Halo, Reloader, Pulse, Rotor, in order of cost.

Always look secondhand.

The only time you will regret buying an Ego, is if you don't actually use it or use some crap site that runs CO2 and is designed for punters, rather than walkon's like you will be (someone with their own kit).

Don't worry about mods, you don't know enough to appreciate them yet, no offense. It will do what you need it to do.
