hey guys got a question

can you tell the difference between a poppet and a spool valve set up when you're playing matches? which would you recommend for a noobie looking into playing tournaments?

i am looking into upgrading my marker. currently looking into Ego's and Geo's but unsure which would be better.

cheers

Its like the chicken vs egg thing.

Both have their strengths and weaknesses, both on and off the feild. Having shot both I can say that to me it "feels" as if theres a lot less kick than a poppet with a spool, however when doing maintainence I feel much more comfortable with a poppet (this applies to games aswell) as if something happens to go wrong, with a poppet you can generally locate the problem ina few easy steps as theres so little to go wrong.

With a spooler theres a lot of seals which can cause issues, thus if it goes wrong you prolly couldnt turn it around for the next game if you needed. However planet seems to imply theyve removed the major problems of spoolers with the geo.

If your stuck for choice, try to find someone / a couple of people who have a spool or a poppet and give them a try out, see what you find better.

Don't worry about the Tech behind them to be honest.

Ego's are tried and tested, been around for several years, cheap(ish) second hand for a decent one and easier to look after.

Geo's are new, already had one design problem and are expensive because they are new.

Unless you are getting sponsored or are desperate to pay full price for a brand new gun then go for a second hand 07/08 Ego over a new 09 Ego or Geo.

cheers guys!i think i will go for an Ego 8
Good choice.

Spool valves, as found in Shockers, Ion's, that stupid Luxe thing and the GEO, are NORMALLY, less gas efficient, more complex, but softer on paint and quieter with almost no kick whatsoever.

Poppet jobbies, like the Ego, are more gas efficient, can kick harder, can be harder on paint but (as the Ego proves) are pretty reliable and easy to work on.

I have an SL66 and it rips along with much newer egos.
Don't forget to look at mint earlier models they are just as good in many ways.
