The manufacturers only sell complete setups now because they can guarantee that the correct torque has been applied to the reg and bottle when they are screwed together. It is a health and safety issue which affected their insurance premiums.

The was the easiest and safest route all round.

Wasn't there a hooha not to long ago about regs fit for purpose?

The difference in price between the two of your example comes in the material and construction. Aluminium bottles are deep drawn and are fairly easy to manipulate and machine thus being cheaper to manufacture. The Luxfer ones are a composite material and take more time and effort to make. They also wear machines out quicker.

That's just my point mate - they don't! You can buy regs on their own at almost any shop - bottles on their own though...

Don't get me wrong. I think selling them together is a damned good idea - but why sell one half and not the other?

*confused*!

Way to go off tangent. But, I'll humour you. What if they DID sell right shoes on their own - but not left ones? That is a parallel arguement!

To help you understand a bit better - imagine the right shoe as a reg and the left one as a bottle!

Actually, John C is probably very near the mark. But surely selling bottles on their own (if cheap enough) would increase profits (most people would probably buy a new one instead of getting their old one re-tested)?

I hear the H&S arguement(s) - but don't forget that you have to remove your reg before sending the bottle off for testing - and re-fit it when your bottle comes back!
